Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information Blatant Santa (“we”, “us”) collects when you visit blatantsanta.co.uk, why we collect it, and what your rights are. The short version: we collect as little as possible and we never sell your data.

What we collect and why

• Emails you send us. If you email us, we’ll have your email address and whatever you include in your message. We use this only to reply to you. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in answering your enquiry.
• Comments. If you leave a comment, we store the name, email address and comment you submit so we can moderate and display it. Your email address is never published. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in running a comments section.
• Technical and security data. Like most websites, our hosting and security tools record basic technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit, so we can keep the site secure, block attacks and fix problems. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in keeping the site safe and working.
• Cookies. We use a small number of cookies. Some are strictly necessary (for example, to remember your cookie choices). Anything else only runs if you say yes on our cookie banner. Lawful basis for non-essential cookies: your consent.

Cookies and your choices

When you first visit, our cookie banner asks for your consent. If you click “No thanks”, only strictly necessary cookies are used and the site still works. If you accept, we also load our fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser connects to Google’s servers and shares your IP address with Google. You can change your mind at any time using the “Cookie settings” tab at the bottom of the screen.

Affiliate links

Our gift guides contain affiliate links to retailers, including Amazon. When you click one, you leave our site and the retailer may set its own cookies so it can tell that you came from us. Those cookies are controlled by the retailer and covered by its own privacy policy. We don’t receive your name, address or payment details from any purchase you make. Who we share data with

• Our website hosting provider, which stores the site and its data on our behalf.
• Google, for Google Fonts, but only if you accept cookies.
• Retailers you choose to visit through our links, as described above.

We don’t sell, rent or trade your personal information, and we don’t use it for marketing.

International transfers

Some of the services above (such as Google) may process data outside the UK. Where that happens, we rely on the safeguards those providers have in place, such as UK adequacy regulations or approved contract terms, so your data stays protected.

How long we keep it

• Emails: only as long as needed to deal with your enquiry, then deleted.
• Comments: for as long as the comment stays on the site, or until you ask us to remove it.
• Server and security logs: for a limited period, then deleted automatically.
• Your cookie choice: up to 12 months, after which we’ll ask again.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018) you have the right to:

• access the personal information we hold about you
• have it corrected if it’s wrong
• have it deleted
• restrict or object to how we use it
• receive a copy of it in a portable format
• withdraw your consent at any time (for cookies, use the “Cookie settings” tab)

Children

Blatant Santa is a gift-ideas site for adults. It isn’t aimed at children and we don’t knowingly collect their personal information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we add new features. The “last updated” date at the top will always show when it last changed.
